Our Story
Alban Rae Home began at the end of Fiona’s maternity leave in Autumn 2024, but the idea had been brewing for much longer. It all started back in 2017, when Fiona and her husband bought their first home—a small 90s house that needed a bit of personality and a lot of work. Fiona’s creative side really came alive during the renovation process, as she sourced antique pieces that would add character without feeling out of place in their modern home.At the time, Fiona was working in a healthcare lab, passionate about helping others but always drawn to creative pursuits. In 2021, after qualifying in her healthcare career and marrying her husband, they moved into a 1920s property in St Albans—another renovation project, but this time with a lot more history to work with. The house had great potential, but it needed full restoration. Fiona spent hours sourcing unique pieces, experimenting with colour, tiles, and wallpaper to create a home that felt modern but true to its roots. When Fiona found out she was expecting in January 2023, she knew the pressure was on to finish the renovations before the baby arrived. The house was ready just in time, and their daughter was born that autumn.During maternity leave, Fiona spent time with her daughter and continued antique hunting. It was a time of reflection, and Fiona started to dream of a business where she could combine her love for interiors with the flexibility of working for herself. She would dream of product ideas—things she would love to have in her own home but couldn’t find. One weekend, while visiting friends, she discovered a collection of Victorian stoneware pieces that sparked her creativity. She took them home, made her first batch of oil reed diffusers and matchstick holders, and the idea for Alban Rae Home began to take shape.Alban Rae Home is all about curating unique, sustainable pieces for the home—items that work together, adding character and quality to any space. We want to offer something special: beautiful, timeless pieces that you can cherish and pass down for generations.
